So you're thinking about joining a health club. . .That's
music to our ears! How are you going to decide which one is right for you?
Based on our experience, here are some key things
to consider.
#1. Convenience. In order to make exercise a part of your daily routine, it's usually best to choose a place that's either close to work or home - unless you're working out with a personal trainer, in which case, it doesn't matter (see why). Also, during the times when you would normally work out, are the machines you want to use available or do you have to wait in line?
#2. Atmosphere. Find a place where you feel comfortable. Are the staff friendly and helpful? Do they know your name or is the experience fairly impersonal. If you enjoy the people and the space, chances are you'll want to go back again and again.
#3. Facilities. Essential to any fitness program are activities that help you build and maintain your aerobic capacity, strength and endurance, as well as flexibility. Does the place have the right equipment? What about classes? Is it clean and well kept? Is it well ventilated? Better yet, can you breathe fresh air?
